Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

-Uses in Aesthetic Procedures-

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) has been widely used for decades in all areas of medicine where expedited healing is desired. PRP is present in our blood. The extraction process involves drawing blood and putting it into a centrifuge where it is spun down to separate the platelets. The resulting amber liquid is separated from the red blood cells. PRP is a nutrient-rich concentration that contains numerous powerful growth factors that boost the repair processes in the body and signal healing. Essentially, PRP is a customized, potent cocktail for your body that will provide optimal results without concerns for allergy or adverse reactions.

PRP Uses

For patients desiring an all-natural approach to correcting imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, poor texture and tone, abnormal pigment, or patients who desire collagen stimulation to combat the aging process, PRP used with the Microneedling procedure can be the answer. Additionally, for people with thinning hair, PRP can be used in hair restoration to stimulate thicker, stronger, fuller hair.

The Stages of Healing & Repair

In the Microneedle procedure, a hand-held device is used to stamp, with uniform precision, channels of tiny perforations on numb skin. These micro injuries cover the entire face, piercing the epidermis while leaving nearly all of it in tact and uninjured. These tiny channels provide a direct path for the PRP to begin the cascade of repair components the body will use to heal the injury. The skin then identifies the injury and a miraculous process begins. The body then responds in phases.

(1) The first phase is Inflammation, which lasts about 72 hours. The skin will be red, feel tight, and can feel moderately warm with a prickly heat very much like a sunburn.

(2) In the next phase, Fibroblasts are Created at the perforation sites and mark the start of The Proliferative Phase, lasting several weeks. During this time, the skin takes on a radiant, healthy glow and may feel tighter and more hydrated.

(3) In the last phase, the Remodeling of Collagen occurs in the collagen matrix previously laid down by the fibroblasts. This leads to mature tissue and results in plump skin with stronger structure. During this process, pigment begins to correct, pore size is reduced significantly, and new volume (collagen & elastin) begin to gently smooth lines and wrinkles. For patients who have fillers, this strengthened structure supports the filler, creating a fuller, more natural effect.

For those looking for an increased result from their Microneedle procedure, PRP is added to the treatment. Applied topically and then penetrated into the skin with the Microneedle device, the PRP is pushed deep into the skin where it can affect form and function, boosting repair to an optimal result.

The addition of PRP can also provide a “cushion effect” to make the 24 to 48 hours after the procedure easier to tolerate by lessening the heat in the skin and calming the intensity of redness.

Hair Restoration with PRP

In hair restoration for men and women with Androgenic Hair Loss or pattern balding and Traction Alopecia, PRP is injected into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. The PRP cocktail reinvigorates dormant hair follicles. This is a natural, safe, and drug-free approach to combat thinning hair. The procedure is very quick and comfortable with no downtime and results can be noticed within the first few treatments. Hair becomes dense, has more shine, less fall, and is stronger.

Intimate Health for Men & Women

For both men and women, PRP injections can greatly enhance sexual intimacy and aid in urinary incontinence. For women, it may be injected directly into the clitoris to enhance sexual sensation, and also applied to the vaginal walls for tightening. For men, it can provide firmer erections, notable increased sexual stamina, and in some cases increase both girth and length of the penis.
